About Copyright Did you know that as soon as you put your music or lyrics down in tangible form it is (in most countries) immediately copyrighted, without you having to do anything .. but there's a catch. Although you have immediate copyright control, if someone steals your work, you will need to prove that you created your song before they did. If a copyright dispute goes to court it is a case of 'who has the most proof wins'. Let's assume that a "Mr Smith" claims to have written your song. If both you and "Mr Smith" claim to have written a song on the same day, but you were smart enough to have posted it to yourself by recorded (date stamped) mail, you will have the stronger case. But, if Mr Smith can show the logic or pro tools data files that perfectly match the computer audio sound wave files, he will have a stronger case than you do, since that is more compelling evidence. The key is to take steps to document your creation, whether it be keeping computer DATA files, sending your song to an online copyright office or sending it to yourself by recorded post. As a minimum, we require that you have at least sent your song to yourself via recorded delivery, and that you keep that mail unopened before uploading your music to Audio Rokit. We take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of our members and to prevent copyright theft but ultimately it is your responsibly to copyright and protect your music.
